Two children and an adult were beaten by a driver outside a preschool in a southern Carolina church in what could have been an intentional act, authorities said.

Police are looking for the suspect after the accident in the Presbyterian Church Sunrise on the island of Sullivan, a beach city on the outskirts of Charleston, according to the sergeant of the Isle of Palms Police. Matt Storen.

A child and an adult were taken to the hospitals and the third victim was treated at the scene and released, police said. Since then, the child taken to the hospital has been discharged, according to a spokesman from the University of Medicine of South Carolina.

Police identified The suspect like Justin Collin Adams, saying that he wore a red shirt and dark shorts and should be considered armed and dangerous.

The suspect left his sedan after the accident and is believed to be on foot and armed with a knife, said Storen.

There was no altercation before the incident, according to Storen.

An active human hunt is ongoing, with searches in the house network, drones that scan the sky and control points at the entrance to Sullivan island, police said. The FBI and the American bailiffs are involved in the search, police said.

The authorities said they believe that the suspect remains on the island of Sullivan.
